WALKING DEAD #50 VARIANT COVER
PENCILED bY LARSEN!

Walking Dead #50 variant cover

The Walking Dead, Image’s popular zombie comic series, is approaching it’s 50th issue. Just to celebrate, Image is releasing a 1 out of every 25 variant superhero cover with art by Savage Dragon’s Erik Larsen and Invincible’s Ryan Ottley.

“My original intention was to make this a super-rare, limited thing, since the cover itself is so misleading as to what the book actually is. I didn’t want people to be confused and think I’d changed the book drastically. Although, based off feedback I’ve decided to make it much more accessible,” said Kirkman. “I hope those readers and retailers excited for the cover enjoy it as much as I do.”

UPDATES, FINALLY!!!

After a long hiatus, I've finally taken the time to update this site. Honestly though, I don't feel so bad because there really wasn't been all that much to report. It seems Erik has so busy as the Publisher at Image Comics there left little time for his own projects.

Well...with this years' San Diego and Baltimore comic conventions came a whole slew of new information proving that Erik has been hard at work on  multiple projects of his own! Let's get down to it:

CHEESEBURGERHEAD?!?

Cheeseburgerhead-- Erik Larsen's newest creation.

Cheesburgerhead debuts in POPGUN VOLUME 1 which features the work an all-star line-up that includes Mike Allred, Erik Larsen, Joseph Michael Lisner, Jim Mahfood and more, Popgun acts as the ultimate graphic mixtape by combining big name creators doing work fans never expected and an array of the industry's rising stars. The anthology crosses the protected borders of every genre, fulfilling the desires of anyone hungry for the pungent taste of creativity.

400 pages, $29.99, in stores on Nov. 21.

SAVAGE DRAGON #132 FINALLY OUT THIS MONTH!

After a very long delay, issue #132 hits stands on September 26thSavage Dragon #131!

It’s 80 pages of all-out action as Dragon begins to unravel the mystery behind Jennifer’s disappearance, while the spotlight shines on his supporting cast in the all-new "Rock City Diner" back-up story written by ERIK LARSEN and drawn by FRANK FOSCO.

Also, It looks like Savage Dragon will be back to a monthly schedule-- at least for the short term. To prove it, Larsen posted this at his forum on the Image comics website on September 20th: "I'll finish coloring SD #133 today. Hooray!"

A 10-PAGE PREVIEW OF THE JOHNNY RAYGUN/SAVAGE DRAGON CROSSOVER COMIC

...was available as a limited (only 100 printed) ashcan comic if you attended the Baltimore Comic Convention this year. What's that? You weren't able to attend? Well, it look's like you're in luck. Word has it that scribe/artist Rich Woodall will be posting the preview on this very website in the near future. Keep checking back!

A SIX ISSUE SEASON, OR BI-MONTHLY?

Erik had posed the following question on his forum at imagecomics.com:

"If it came to this in the future--would you prefer six monthly issues a year or a book that came out every-other month?"

Erik went on to state:

"....I was thinking of it in terms of, say, an annual miniseries or, say, a season of a TV show where it comes out at a regular clip for a while and then there's a break. In that way we can give it a bigger annual push ("Hey--Savage Dragon is BACK!") plus readers would be aware that the book would be back at a certain time.

The show LOST, for example, lost a lot of its momentum because it had too many breaks that were ill-defined. Now that we know when it will return and how long each season will run it's a lot easier to wait it out.

I always had a hard time with bi-monthly books as a reader because two months was too long between issues and each time an issue would come out I'd need to re-read issues in order to get caught up on things."

There has been no word on any final decision.

ERIK'S MYSTERY PROJECT (IT'S AN ONGOING SERIES!)

From Comic Book Resources:

Larsen's added another ongoing series to his task list, announced today during the Baltimore Comic-Con. Veiled in secrecy, full details won't be available until sometime in 2008, but in the mean time Larsen's stopped by with some advance art and to tease what this new, unnamed book might be.

A RELAUNCH OF KIRBY'S CHARACTERS AT IMAGE COMICS! BY ERIK LARSEN!

At this year's San Diego Comic Convention, there was a huge announcement for Jack Kirby and Erik Larsen fans alike: Image Comics will be publishing two all-new series for Captain Victory and Silver Star, both penciled and written by Larsen.

Erik stated: "I'll be writing and penciling both books to begin with. Eric's (Stephenson) working with me on Captain Victory as a co-writer, but I'll be flying solo on Silver Star. "

SAVAGE DRAGON ON A 2007 (OR IS IT 2008?)WORLD TOUR
OF THE IMAGE UNIVERSE

Savage Dragon's world tour begins this April as he explores the Image Universe in search of his missing wife.

The tour begins in the pages of Savage Dragon #134 where Dragon's quest leads him to Newport, home of the notorious Bomb Queen!

Erik has not yet provided details on how many issues the tour will run for.  Larsen commented that characters were still being lined up, and gave confirmation of the following:

Confirmed cross-overs: Madman, Invincible, Gødland, Jack Staff, and Bomb Queen.

Likely:
Spawn and WitchBlade
.

On the appearance of other (mostly "non-superhero") characters, Erik commented on his message board:

"There are a few that I could see as one panel gags--but I don't think I could pull off for entire issues. The Bakers, True Story Swear To God, PvP and Liberty Meadows would work on a limited basis but I don't think I could manage a full issue. I couldn't pull it off style-wise without going insane."

THE JOHNNY RAYGUN/SAVAGE DRAGON CROSSOVER COMIC GETS A COVER!

As posted by Rich Woodall (Johnny Raygun's creator, artist, and writer):

"I know, it's been a while since I've given any update on where I am w/ the book, or if it's on or off or whatever. Well my day job's been sneaking into my night job (comics) and I had to find a new inker, anyway, enough excuses...here's an update. I've got a new inker on the book, I'm officially half way done with the pencils and inks, so give a warm welcome to my new inker Ken McFarlane!!!! I picked up the page today and just couldn't wait to color it, so here it is, half colored (pretty much just flatted)."

NEW SAVAGE DRAGON TOYS!

The cat is officially out of the bag as of ToyFare #115. Marvel Toys (formally Toy Biz) is launching a new line in 2007: Legendary Comic Book Heroes featuring characters from all over comics publishing.

Wave One: (Fall 2007) Savage Dragon, Super-Patriot, Ripclaw, Madman and Judge Dredd plus a 10" Build-a-Figure of Pitt!

Some quotes from Erik regarding the figures:

"Dunno if I'm supposed to say anything--but I've seen sculpts on Dragon and SuperPatriot at this point and there are plans for more. Stay tuned."

"I don't know what I'm even allowed to say but--there are a number of characters in the works--several of which have never been in toy form (or at least not authorized toys)."

On the Dragon figure:
"He's in sneakers and blue jeans. I think he's shirtless."

On one message board posters' wish that Star and She Dragon figures follow up the Dragon and Super Patriot ones:
"
And you're going to be very happy when it comes to the next batch."
