SHE-DRAGON BUSTS OUT!

One shot swells in size from 48 to 64 pages

BERKELEY, CA -- 5 July, 2006 -- Erik Larsen’s SHE-DRAGON makes her
triumphant return this July in a mammoth sized sixty-four page special.

"That’s right: It’s now SIXTY-FOUR BIG PAGES – and we’re not charging
you a dollar more," Larsen explained. "Originally I'd planned to cap
it out at 40 or even 42 story pages. However, Franchesco! and I
couldn’t stop, so we ran out of ample space to show off all the cool
behind-the-scenes stuff. With the addition of sixteen sketchbook
pages we’re now able to give readers a peek at the hard work we did."

"Don’t say we never gave you anything!" Franchesco! exclaimed.

As if the increased size wasn’t enough, the SHE-DRAGON special now
leads directly into SAVAGE DRAGON #128, which features those lovable
lawbreakers from Mark Millar and J.G. Jones’ caustic classic WANTED.

"Sometimes things are better with time and this special is no
different," said Larsen. "While I’m sorry folks had to wait so darned
long, the end result is so much better because of the extra effort.
This book is absolutely stunning.”

With the stunning SHE-DRAGON statue slated to come out later this
year and rumblings of a follow up miniseries, this looks like a
banner year for the green-skinned goddess.

SHE-DRAGON (DEC041542) is available for advance re-order. It is now a
64-page full color book with a cover price of $5.99 and will be in
stores on July 26th.

THE BRAWL FOR IT ALL: SAVAGE DRAGON VS. WANTED!

BERKELEY, CA -- 22 May, 2006 -- Here's one for those fans who are tired of talking head crossovers where it takes half a dozen issues or more for anything to happen. Creator Erik Larsen takes the bull by the horns with the superhero crossover no one saw coming: Savage Dragon vs. Mark Millar's WANTED and delivers an action-packed epic that fits neatly into the pages of SAVAGE DRAGON #128!

SAVAGE DRAGON started off as a cutting edge superhero book for older readers that focused on over-the-top action, dark humor and planet-shattering adventures. It blazed the path for books like THE AUTHORITY, THE ULTIMATES and WANTED, and with this crossover, the book returns to its roots.

"I don't know of anybody who isn't a fan of of the many movies these fine fellows have worked on at Pixar," said Image Comics Publisher Erik Larsen. "Having the opportunity to publish an anthology by the creative geniuses behind all these beloved films is a thrill and a half. If you're a fan of their films you'll FLIP over their comics."

A six-issue miniseries published by Image/Top Cow, Millar had previously stated the cast of WANTED were never to appear again, but the moment Larsen proposed the crossover, he had to make one exception.

"JG and I always made it quite clear that WANTED was going to be six issues long and self-contained," explains Millar. "It sold a lot of books, the highest-selling creator-owned book since the '90s, I believe, but we stuck to our guns and turned down all offers of a sequel because we liked it just the way it was. That said, only a wee daftie would turn down a chance to see their characters in SAVAGE DRAGON. Dragon is one of our favourite creator-owned books of all time and Erik is one of our favourite writer-artists. This is a One Night Only special and our babies are in good hands. If you don't buy this, you're a monkey."

"I had a story that had been building over the years where a member of Dragon's supporting cast took over the world, and I was looking around for something out of left field to throw into the mix and after reading WANTED, it just seemed to click in my head what a perfect combination these two concepts would be," said SAVAGE DRAGON creator, Erik Larsen. "Mark Millar has been an enthusiastic supporter of SAVAGE DRAGON for years and when I brought up the idea to him, he was more than happy to loan me his characters to play with. The combination is pure gold!"

Continued Larsen, "The nice thing about doing creator-owned books is that you can literally do whatever you want without fear of someone getting in the way or telling you what you can or can't do. When I say that a world will shatter, characters will die and Savage Dragon's world will never be the same, you'd better believe I mean it.

"In this case, Mark and JG Jones have been kind enough to let me work in Wesley Gibbons and The Fraternity directly from the midst of the original WANTED miniseries. It fits in beautifully and sheds new light on events only touched on in the original WANTED miniseries."

A smackdown brawl that will excite loyal fans and new readers alike, SAVAGE DRAGON #128 is wall-to-wall story with a low cover price of $2.99! It will not only feature a variant cover painted by WANTED co-creator JG Jones, but the cover by creator Erik Larsen will be done in watercolors a first for Larsen as well.

"I'm thrilled to have the Wanted characters appear in the pages of SAVAGE DRAGON." WANTED co-creator, JG Jones added, "I've been a fan of the Big Green Guy for years, so this definitely sets off my inner fanboy. SAVAGE DRAGON is absolutely the best monthly monster fight in comics. Hands down."

SAVAGE DRAGON #128 (MAY061745) will be in stores July 2006 and is available for order in the May issue of Diamond's PREVIEWS. Mark Miller and J.G. Jones' WANTED miniseries is collected in a trade paperback (FEB058403) and is available now.

SAVAGE DRAGON SELLS OUT, MILESTONE ISSUE #125 LOOMS

BERKELEY, CA -- 18 April, 2006 -- After a long hiatus, SAVAGE DRAGON has returned to the shelves with a vengeance, selling out of its two most recent issues as the series approaches the landmark number 125. Only one other Image Comics title has made it to that point Todd McFarlane's SPAWN and to celebrate, SAVAGE DRAGON #125 will feature an ad-free 64 pages of material.

Having taken almost a full year off to focus on his position as Publisher of Image Comics, SAVAGE DRAGON creator Erik Larsen hit the ground running this year with renewed vigor for his long-time creation.

Not only has the book been shipping on-time, every month, but fans will notice that Larsen has taken over all creative aspects of the book himself: writing, illustrating, coloring and even lettering!

"It's great to be back," said Larsen. "I've been dabbling with Photoshop over the last few years, coloring back-up stories and the occasional page or pin-up and many of the covers, but I really wanted to color the book itself. Having had a lot of practice over my 'break' I was able to pick up the ball and run with it on the regular series, and I'm pretty excited about the results. The lettering is still a bit shaky, but I'm confident that I'll get a handle on it."

For the SAVAGE DRAGON #125, Larsen handled full creative chores for a whopping 44 pages of all-new material. The milestone issue is rounded out by three previously published stories: "The Wish" from NEGATIVE BURN WINTER 2005 special, "Power Shortage" from the IMAGE COMICS SUMMER SPECIAL (released for Free Comic Book Day in 2004) and "A Very Glum X-Mas" from the IMAGE COMICS HOLIDAY SPECIAL 2005.

"SAVAGE DRAGON #125 was a lot of fun." Larsen said. "I'm gearing up for another awe-inspiring Savage Dragon epic and this one sets the stage for that. It gets Mr. Glum in a position so that he can take over the world and it puts the Savage Dragon in a place where he doesn't want to be. It's all leading up to a rousing epic that culminates with the characters from Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' WANTED series dropping by to kick some serious ass (which happens in SAVAGE DRAGON #128) and THAT leads into the NEXT phase of the Dragon's life. But it all starts in #125, which gets the ball rolling."

SAVAGE DRAGON #125 will be on sale April 26th. There are currently 11 volumes of SAVAGE DRAGON trade paperbacks available for order and your local comics retailer can contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative for ordering.

SAVAGE DRAGON BACK ON TRACK IN JANUARY

Press Release

To kick off 2006, Image Comics is proud to announce the return of co-founder Erik Larsen's SAVAGE DRAGON. Back on to the shelves for the first time in eight months, January's SAVAGE DRAGON #122 marks the return of one of Image's longest running comics.

The question on everyone's mind is the same - why was SAVAGE DRAGON so darned late? To answer that question, here's SAVAGE DRAGON creator and Image Comics Publisher Erik Larsen to explain it all.

"The publisher gig has taken up a lot more time than I ever expected and starting off I was incredibly hands on. So much so that I ended up doing a lot of work on other books - most of it uncredited," Larsen explained. "Learning to delegate hasn't been easy, but I learned a LOT in the process and that knowledge will, ultimately, be put to good use on SAVAGE DRAGON."

"That being said, SAVAGE DRAGON #122 is just wrapping up, #123 is well on its way and by the time January rolls around, I should be pretty far along. Well into #125, if I keep going as I have been. And there's no good reason that that shouldn't be the case, so the book will ship on time, every month."

Beginning with issue #122, there are some major changes ahead in store for our beloved green-finned hero. SAVAGE DRAGON has always been an ever-evolving book and the coming months will see some radical changes in the Dragon's life. Resolutions to long-running arcs will lead in to some new, fresh stories, harkening back to the days when SAVAGE DRAGON hopped from one crazy adventure to another in a non-stop frenzy that made the book a favorite for fans & pros alike.

"SAVAGE DRAGON has always been a sort of epic book. Things start small and build to a huge cataclysmic event and the issues coming up really kick things into high gear. There's a character in the book now, Mister Glum, that has appeared to be rather harmless and cute, but he takes on a vastly different role over the next few issues. Ultimately, the result will be a book which is vastly different from what it has been in the last few years and more like it was in the start," concluded Larsen.

SAVAGE DRAGON #122 will be available for order in the November Previews. All previous orders for SAVAGE DRAGON are cancelled and each book will be re-solicited. There are currently 11 volumes of SAVAGE DRAGON trade paperbacks available for order - your local comic retailer can contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative for ordering.

BERKELEY, CA -- 8 August, 2005 -- Following a long delay, Image Comics has announced the IMAGE COMICS HC will finally ship this November. All previous orders are being canceled and the book is being made available for new orders in the September issue of Diamond's PREVIEWS.

"It's DONE. Really!" said Image Comics Publisher, Erik Larsen. "The book was supposed to come out in early 2002, and believe me – we've been deluged with e-mails, phone calls and letters asking where it is ever since. MORE DETAILS ABOUT DRAGON'S APPEARANCE
IN IMAGE COMIC'S ANT #2

Excerpt from the full story at comicbookresources.com:

Ant's first Image "visitor" is Savage Dragon in issue #2. Gully explained, "Erik wanted the Arachnid to appear in the issue and take on Ant. He mentioned a couple of times that he thought a cover with Ant all webbed up would be a great image. I wanted Savage Dragon in the issue as well, so I had to ask Erik if I could draw the big guy. The Dragon comes in issue #3 to give Ant a hand with the Arachnid. Ant starts to battle three villains on the building-tops and the fight gets way out of control. This first story arc is way cool and full of
surprises, with Ant and Savage Dragon fighting side-by-side."

DRAGON #122 DELAYED UNTIL AT LEAST AUGUST

The following exchange was copied from the message board at www.savagedragon.com:

FAN: Any chance we could see one of these
issues (Savage Dragon)...uh, soon? We're DYING for a Dragon
fix!

ERIK:
Sigh.

Not soon, no.

I've been doing a mountain of other stuff of late--and learning a lot along the way. I'll be back in the game shortly but it's been a much longer delay than I'd hoped.

Don't expect a new issue before August.

UPDATE: 7/25/05
Erik made further comments on his message board regarding the schedule of Savage Dragon and the cause of the delays:

"
There are a few projects that have taken up a LOT of time lately. I did a LOT of color correcting and fixing up stuff on American Flagg. It took up the better part of two months--but that's behind me now. Ant and Coyote also took some time to tweak--Coyote moreso because I did a lot of coloring on that as well.

ALL of this took time away from Savage Dragon but I can't say that I have any regrets. I learned a LOT in the process and that will, ultimately, help make Savage Dragon a better book.

And frankly--after 13 years--I needed a breather. Once issues start coming out again, they'll continue to come out on a more regular basis."

MORE INFO FROM ERIK ABOUT ISSUE # 125

Erik Larsen wrote on the Image boards: "There will be two Dragon stories (actually three) --a standard 22-page lead story--a not-so-standard 24-page I-can't-believe-he-had-the-nerve-to-do-THAT Dragon yarn plus the 8-page Dragon yarn from the Free Comic Book Day comic from last year and my Mister Glum yarn from Negative Burn"

I dunno about you, but a "not-so-standard 24-page I-can't-believe-he-had-the-nerve-to-do-THAT Dragon yarn" has got my attention. I can't wait to see what the heck this is. - Craig
